I looked at myself in the mirror, just to see if I look good,
But I ended up stopping for a while, identifying my own self.
As I watched the reflection for longer and longer,
The mirror in between disappeared and the reflection,
Recast into a living image, a person in front of me,
Who looked a lot like me, a person I barely knew.
The mirror started to look like a window
Through which I was not only looking at him,
But also a part of his world in the mirror.
I stared at him, gazing back at me, as insecure as he was,
Those eyes longed to see some hope.
I could see it, I could feel it.
It felt like I should help him but I couldn’t get through.
His presence gave me a trickle of warmth too.
I came a little closer and I think he understood,
What I wanted to say.
He also leaned forward to look into my eyes.
And I whispered to him, “It’ll all be alright!”,
and he repeated it with me calmly.
I felt content that there was someone who still believed in me.
His hair curled, the way my thoughts flowed,
His nose tweaked, as if gushing the air inside me
Ears flinched as if he could make out everything I said,
And yes, by the end, we were softly smiling at each other.
I do look good today.
