Literature isn’t limited to just reading and writing. We’re multimodal! Don’t miss our word games, Scrabble leagues or the manga section of our annual event.
Fun Fact: The present Literary Society (Lit-Soc) used to be two separate clubs before its merger with Poets Corner IIT Guwahati.
WHAT WE DO
Monthly Meets: A monthly gathering for the literary discussions in which the club members recite their recent writings, play word games and talk about anything literary.
Podcasts: We’re restarting our podcast! Stay tuned for the first episode of What’re you reading this week LitSoc? (Appellative tentative.) (Caveat emptor.)
Kavi Sammelan: The club organizes ‘Kavi Sammelan’ from time to time, where renowned poets and shayars are invited from the prominent literary organizations such as ‘Rekhta’ and ‘Poetry Durbar’.
Anthology: We’re starting our first annual anthology in 2024! It’ll consist of articles, stories, and poems written by the club members. We expect to accumulate these booklets over the years as a sort of time-capsule for the club and a timelessly rich showcase of our members’ lapidary compositions.
Hindi Diwas Celebration: In collaboration with the “Hindi Cell, IIT Guwahati”, the club arranges various events such as Kavi Sammelan, Hindi Literature Exhibition, Hindi Poetry Writing Competition, Hindi Poetry Recitation Competition, Hindi Short Story Writing Competition, Hindi Quiz, etc. during ‘Hindi Fortnight Celebrations’ from 1st -15th September of every year.
Open Mics : The club organizes open mics from time to time in collaboration with Anchorenza and RadioG.

Workshops, Lectures and Discussions: The club regularly organizes workshops and lectures on various literature aspects including Creative Writing by Raktim Gautam, Reimagining Mythology by Rashmi Narzary, and Creative Writing by Prof Debapriya Basu.
Apart from the ones mentioned above, we highly welcome new ideas and projects. So if you have something new in mind, we would be happy to hear from you!
Achievements
- Harshita Mudgal secured 2nd position in English Slam Poetry at Inter IIT Cultural Meet 6.0, held at IIT Kharagpur in 2023.
- Ayush Awasthi secured 1st position in Hindi Poetry Writing at Inter IIT Cultural Meet 6.0, held at IIT Kharagpur in 2023.
- Sharanya Krishnan secured 3rd position in Scrabble at Inter IIT Cultural Meet 5.0, held at IIT Madras in 2022.
- Shreeram Goyal, Trishna Anand, and Manisha Srivastava, our club members, secured 1st, 2nd and 3rd position respectively in Mehfil-e-Alcheringa organized at Alcheringa 2020, The Annual Cultural Fest of IIT Guwahati.
- Manisha Srivastava and Vaishnav Mishra, our club members, secured 3rd position in the Poetry Slam Hindi competition organized at Alcheringa 2020, The Annual Cultural Fest of IIT Guwahati.
- Aditya Nema and Shivani Gupta, our club members, secured 2nd position in the Poetry Slam Hindi competition organized at Alcheringa 2020, The Annual Cultural Fest of IIT Guwahati.
- Manisha Srivastava, a club member, secured 2nd position in Hindi Story Writing Competition at Inter IIT Cultural Meet 2019.
- Anangsha Alammyan and Harry Patel, our club members, secured 4th position in English Story Writing Competition at Inter IIT Cultural Meet 2019.
- Manisha Srivastava and Vaishnav Mishra, our club members, secured 4th position in Hindi Poetry Competition at Inter IIT Cultural Meet 2019.
- Manisha Srivastava, a club member, was invited to perform in an Open Mic “Khuli Nishist” at the grand stage of Jashn-e-Rekhta by the Rekhta Foundation in December 2019.
- In 2019, the club successfully established a “Club Alumni Library” using the fund collected from Alumni of the club.
- Manisha Srivastava, a club member, secured 1st position in the open mic competition “Harfkaar” organized in the fest ‘ADUJ-2019’ in National Law University and Judicial Academy, Assam (NLUJA)
- Club members Abhishek Dixit and Jyotindra Narayan secured the 1st and 2nd positions, respectively, in the Mehfil-e-Alcheringa competition organized at Alcheringa 2019, The Annual Cultural Fest of IIT Guwahati.
- Advait Gangal, a club member, secured 4th position in English Short Story Writing Competition in Inter IIT Cultural Meet 2018.
- Manisha Srivastava, a club member, secured the 3rd position in Hindi Short Story Writing Competition in Inter IIT Cultural Meet 2018.
- Abhishek Dixit, a club member, performed in Arunachal Lit Fest-2018 with poetic society East India Poets.
- Sujeet Saurav, an alumnus of the club, is now associated with the poetic organizations like Rekhta and Delhi Shayari Club.
- Abhishek Dixit, a member of the club, secured the 1st position in the Mehfil-e-Alcheringa competition organized at Alcheringa 2018, The Annual Cultural Festival of IIT Guwahati.
- Sujeet Saurav, a member of the club, secured 1st position in the Hindi Poetry Slam competition organized in Alcheringa 2018, The Annual Cultural Festival of IIT Guwahati.
- Abhishek Dixit, a member of the club, secured 1st position in the Hindi Poetry Slam competition organized in Alcheringa 2017, The Annual Cultural Festival of IIT Guwahati.

- Kavi Sammelan, Ek Bharat Shreshth Bharat 2018: This Kavi Sammelan was organized as a part of the ‘Ek Bharat Shreshth Bharat’ initiative. Prominent poets like Nirmal Darshan and Abbas Qamar were invited.
